Nguyễn Bắc Truyển - Translated by Như Ngọc (Danlambao) - “Probably Dung does not have a chance to return home,” said Buu, the husband of the prisoner of conscience Mai Thi Dung imprisoned in Thanh Xuan Prison in Hanoi. Sentenced to 11 years in prison, Dung has spent 8 years in prison while carried gallstones in the last 7 years. Her health has been deteriorating so badly that she may not survive the remaining 3 years of imprisonment.
She was transferred to Thanh Xuan prison earlier in October 2013 from Xuan Loc prison, Dong Nai province. Her family made effort to visit her once in the new prison and the second visit is beyond their imagination. Beside financial problems, Buu has to travel more than 2,000 km to visit his wife; therefore, he told me over the phone in depression, “Probably Dung does not have a chance to return home.” Buu said her health was very bad in Xuan Loc prison, and it is getting worse. Her skin is turning dark, her body is swelling, and her voice is so weak.
During the first visit, Thanh Xuan prison officer promised Buu to provide his wife treatment and asked him to convince her not to go on hunger strike. But a promise is just a promise. On Nov. 07, 2013, the Vietnamese communist authorities joined the International Convention Against Torture treaty. On Nov. 12, 2013, Vietnam was elected to serve on the UN Human Rights Council board. And today, Nov. 20, 2013, the communist regime continues to torture a female prisoner of conscience who is suffering serious illnesses in a critical condition. Evil still wins goodness.
